This year Elizabeth Galloway set out not only to showcase our 2021 graduate collections but to celebrate fashion and encapsulate just who we are as a community, revealing our contemporary views in the planning, designing, and presenting of the EG 2021 Graduate Fashion Event.

The celebration was intended to highlight student work, the beauty of our campus surroundings, and our philosophy of supporting local, inclusivity, sustainable practice, and creating joy centered around fashion.

The delivery of perfect summer weather set the tone for an awesome runway show set beneath the avenue of Oaks lining the street on the Academy doorstep. In collaboration with Isa Carstens, The Stellenbosch Hair Academy, local DJ, Thami Tsengiwe AKA DJ Thamiache, our beautiful locally scouted models, and of course the quality and creativity of our students work ensued an extremely successful event.

The 300 plus guests, consisting of family, friends, alumni, and of course our valued industry partners, enjoyed a fast passed, yet laid-back runway show. The show included graduate ranges from our Advanced Diploma, 3rd-year Diploma, and 3rd year Degree student groups, as well as our 1st, 2nd, and part-time students modeling their own self-made runway looks.

The 2021 graduate self-expression ranges span diverse market categories, including occasion wear, kids wear, maternity wear, men`s streetwear, knitwear, active-leisure wear, loungewear, and day wear. The students did not fail to deliver on creativity, wearability, and of course quality. All in all we are very proud of the work produced by our 2021 graduates, as well as their tenacity to push through and get things done, despite the challenging times we have all had to endure.

The EG Fashion Event was concluded with Ackermans presenting the Academy with The #1 for Value award. The award was presented in recognition of the valuable relationship Ackermans and the EG Academy have established over the years.

At Ackermans, our purpose is to bring value to life… for our customers, for our employees and for the people we partner with. This purpose is the golden thread that runs through everything that we do. Therefore, it is a very special moment when we find a partner who shares this purpose and through their actions, bring value to life for others…. A partner that prioritises value in a way that aligns with our purpose, and understands what it means to give your best and demand the best, for driving a high-value curriculum that produces top graduates who enhance the value of our industry.

Kelly Wilskut

Thank you to Kelly and the Ackerman’s team for your generous kind words, we could not deliver industry-ready graduates if it were not for Ackermans and all our industry partners who diligently support and complement our teaching curriculum.

We wish all our 2021 Graduates all the best, we have no doubt you will generously contribute to the South African Fashion industry – congratulations on a fabulous show!
